Speaker: Dan Hoffman

 

Daniel Hoffman is a police officer and has been involved in law enforcement for over 12 years in Wisconsin and Illinois. He has had extensive training that has included Homicide Investigations, Sex Crimes, Identity Theft, Frauds, Scams, Technology Facilitated Crimes and Protecting Children Online. He is currently assigned to the Investigations Division at the Sycamore Police Department in Sycamore, Illinois. Daniel and his wife, Beth, have been married for over 15 years and have two boys ages 11 and 8 and attend the First Baptist Church in Sycamore. They have been homeschooling for seven years and are part of the leadership team for their local homeschooling group, HEART (Home Educators Applying Righteous Teachings).

This seminar by its very nature may not be suitable for children under 14 years of age. Discussion will include what technology is currently out there and how it is being used to commit crimes against our children and what parents can do to protect their children while using the technology. This will include: social networking, instant messaging, chat rooms, peer to peer, on-line gaming, cell phones, texting, home gaming systems, and sexual predators. ADULTS ONLY PLEASE

Identity Theft: Are You Who You Say You Are?

One in four people will be the victim of identity theft or a victim of a scam. The average person will spend more than 100 hours trying to repair their credit and identity after becoming a victim. This seminar will cover current trends in Identity Theft and discuss basic steps you can take to protect yourself. It will also cover current scams and frauds that you need to be aware of that could cost you thousands of dollars. If you use a checkbook, a credit card, or a computer, you are at risk.
