Volunteer Workers Needed

We need you! Every year, dozens of wonderful, servant-hearted attendees willingly sacrifice part of their time at the convention. Why? Because they understand that without their help, it would be impossible to have a convention the average home school family could afford to attend. As a way of thanking these wonderful volunteers, we offer a compensation of $10/hour—up to four hours—returned from their registration fee. A young adult over thirteen, who is attending with a parent, may help alongside that parent for a compensation of $5/hour—up to four hours.

There are several opportunities for you to be a part of this volunteer team:

SET-UP CREW: Thursday morning, helping the vendors unload their products. This job is one of heavy lifting and physical labor. Please do not volunteer to do this if you have health problems or are pregnant.

REGISTRATION: We need help with this everyday, beginning early morning, and continuing throughout the day. On Thursday morning, this will include putting up signs and getting the area set up. On Saturday afternoon, this will include helping to pack things away.

HOSTING SESSIONS: This is an area where we need a lot of help, because we try to place a host person in every workshop session. It involves making a short announcement and maintaining order during the session. You must be willing to ask people to quiet their children for the sake of the recordings being made of every session. When the coordinator contacts you, she will make every effort to place you in a session you want to attend. Please understand, however, that you may be needed in another session. Because this is a one-person assignment, it is not possible to have young-adult volunteers in this position.

GENERAL ASSISTANCE: Everyday, throughout the convention, we have need of people to run errands and fill in with assistance as needed.

If you are interested in volunteering to help us this year, check your registration form and pay your regular fee. Please make sure your phone number is correct, legible, and includes the area code. When we receive your registration form, we will deposit your check. You will receive a cash refund for your hours of service on the day they are completed. In no event will the refund exceed the amount paid.

One to two weeks before the convention, our volunteer coordinator will contact you by phone and schedule your times of service. Because we make every effort to contact volunteers in the order in which their registration is received, early registrants have a better choice of service opportunities. If your time of service prevents you from attending a keynote session, or a workshop you hoped to attend, ICHE will give you a coupon for one free CD per family per convention.

If you sign-up to help, please be faithful to your commitment. We will be counting on you.
